The beautiful Cinema Cristallo is found in the heart of the stunning medieval town of Dolceacqua, around 8km (10 minutes) inland from the Riviera coast, just behind Ventimiglia/Bordighera. It features regular films in Italian, and shows English-language films (with Italian subtitles) once a month. The Cinema also acts as a theatre, featuring occasional concerts, conferences, etc. The programme and upcoming features can be found at; http://www.cinemacristallo.org/en/programmazione/
The English-language films feature a mix of recent and classic films, aimed at visitors or local residents who want to enjoy a film in English. These showings are often preceded by an optional presentation about the film in English (see http://www.cinemacristallo.org/en/the-full-english/).
The 200-seat cinema was modernised and adapted for digital projection in 2011. Since the relaunch of the Cinema, the Cristallo has been run by a group of volunteers (and movie-lovers).
The Italian web pages give a complete list of films shown since the reopening of the cinema. The cinema itself does not run a summer programme in July, August and September, but instead it takes movies ‘on the road’, taking advantage of the summer heat to show films at outside venues nearer the coast.
